20+
YEARS IN BUSINESS
Our Difference
Built on More Than Steel
We do not just put up buildings. We engineer structures designed to perform in the North Texas climate, handle the demands of your property, and hold their value for decades. These are the reasons clients across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma keep coming back to 2J Steel.
Deep Regional Roots
We have operated in the Decatur, Texas, corridor for over 20 years. That means we know the soil, the weather, and the building demands of this region better than any out-of-state contractor ever could.
Single-Source Accountability
From dirt work and concrete to steel framing, spray foam, and electrical, we manage the full scope in-house. You have one point of contact and one team responsible for the outcome.
Engineering-Grade Materials
We use I-beam trusses ranging from 6 to 24 inches, 3500 PSI concrete with #4 rebar in beams and #3 rebar on 18-inch centers, and commercial-grade insulated panel doors as our default standard, not an upgrade.
24-Hour Response Commitment
Slow communication is one of the biggest frustrations in construction. We commit to responding within 24 hours so your questions get answered and your project keeps moving forward.
Warranty-Backed Work
Every house and major project comes with a 1-year warranty. We stand behind our builds because we know the materials and methods we use are built to hold up.
Financing Made Simple
We work with American National Bank and Trust to help clients access construction loans and permanent mortgages, making it easier to move forward on the project you have been planning.
Our Services
Steel Building Services in Decatur, Texas and Beyond
We offer a full range of custom steel buildings and site services for residential, commercial, and agricultural clients across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Every service is backed by 20+ years of experience and our commitment to craftsmanship you can count on.

Custom Barndominiums
We build fully custom barndominiums using engineered steel frames, I-beam trusses, 2x4 and 2x6 stud walls with Zip System or plywood wrap, and high-performance spray foam insulation. These are real homes built with residential-grade framing inside a steel shell.

Commercial & Weld-Up Barns
From fully engineered bolt-up commercial buildings to custom weld-up structures, we build barns designed for agricultural, equine, and industrial use. Our weld-up barns feature I-beam columns and C-purlin wall girts sized to your specific load and span requirements.

Steel Fencing
Our high-quality steel fencing is built to resist warping, rotting, and the wear that comes with North Texas weather. It is a low-maintenance, long-lasting solution for residential, agricultural, and commercial properties.

Dirt Work & Site Preparation
We handle site clearing, grading, leveling, trenching, and select fill pads. Our dirt work process uses select fill compacted every 2 to 4 inches and roller-packed road base to give your structure a stable, properly prepared foundation.

Concrete Foundations
Every slab we pour uses 3500 PSI rebar-reinforced concrete with vapor barriers and rebar chairs as standard. We also handle pool decks, driveways, and sidewalks with the same attention to spec and long-term performance.

Spray Foam Insulation
We apply open-cell and closed-cell spray foam for shops and barndominiums. Closed-cell foam creates an airtight seal and strong thermal resistance, while the combination of both types in barndominiums ensures consistent indoor temperatures year-round.

Electrical Services
We provide residential and commercial electrical services as part of our full-build approach, so you are not left coordinating a separate electrician while your project is in progress.

What Clients Say About 2J Steel
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Steel Building Services
What areas does 2J Steel serve for steel construction projects?
2J Steel is headquartered in Decatur, Texas, and primarily serves clients across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. The company has deep regional roots in the Decatur corridor and surrounding communities in Wise County and neighboring areas. If you are unsure whether your project location falls within the service area, reaching out directly is the best way to confirm. The 24-hour response commitment means you will get a clear answer quickly without waiting around. How much does it cost to get project drawings done before a build?
2J Steel prices project drawings between $0.50 and $1.00 per square foot, providing a detailed technical blueprint before construction begins. For barndominium projects specifically, a $1,500 non-refundable consultation fee is required to get started. This fee functions as a deposit and helps ensure that both parties are serious about moving forward. The drawings serve as the working blueprint for the entire project, giving you a clear picture of the build before any steel goes up.What type of concrete does 2J Steel use for foundations, and why does it matter?
Every foundation 2J Steel pours uses 3500 PSI concrete as the standard mix. The system includes 12-inch wide by 18-inch deep perimeter and cross beams, #4 rebar in beams, #3 rebar on 18-inch centers, vapor barriers, and rebar chairs to position the rebar correctly within the slab. This spec matters in North Texas, where soil conditions can cause shifting and settling over time. Using higher-grade concrete and proper reinforcement from the start significantly reduces the risk of foundation movement down the road.Does 2J Steel offer financing options for larger construction projects?
Yes. 2J Steel works with American National Bank and Trust to help clients access construction loans and permanent mortgages. This partnership makes it easier for residential and commercial clients to move forward on projects that might otherwise require significant upfront capital. Financing is available for qualifying projects, and the connection to a trusted lending partner is part of how 2J Steel supports clients through the full process, from planning through completion. What is the difference between a bolt-up and a weld-up barn, and which one is right for my project?
A bolt-up barn uses pre-engineered components assembled on site with bolts, which is faster and often more cost-efficient for standard commercial applications. A weld-up barn is custom-fabricated on site using steel columns and I-beams that are welded together, allowing for greater flexibility in design and dimensions. 2J Steel builds both types. The right choice depends on your size requirements, budget, and intended use. Discussing your project details with the team will help determine which method fits your goals. What kind of warranty does 2J Steel offer on completed projects?
2J Steel provides a 1-year warranty on houses and major construction projects. This warranty covers workmanship and structural issues but does not extend to damage caused by external factors outside the builder's control. The warranty reflects the company's confidence in the materials and methods used on every build. Knowing that the contractor stands behind the finished product is an important part of making a high-value construction decision, and the 1-year coverage provides that assurance.
